The Engineering Training Advisory Committee (ETAC) convened on May 11th, 2023 for the approval of the newly developed Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) apprenticeship training guidelines. HVAC is also referred to as Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration.
The Engineering Training Advisory Committee is a nine-member tripartite; composed of representatives from government, labour federation and employer federation. Its chairperson is independent while the secretariat comes from the DIVT. Among ETAC’s duties is to ensure the quality and efficiency of industrial vocational training and ensure adequate supply of trained manpower in all sectors of employment in Eswatini.
The HVAC apprenticeship training guidelines have been unanimously approved by ETAC and ETAC expressed gratitude to all the experts, partners or sponsors who contributed immensely in the development of the HVAC qualification and apprenticeship training guidelines. The apprenticeship training guidelines can be downloaded at the DIVT website and companies are encouraged to register for HVAC apprenticeship as this trade is new and no HVAC apprenticeship certificate has ever been given by the DIVT.
The HVAC apprenticeship training guidelines are spread over a period of 5 years like all other apprenticeship programmes in the country. The entry requirement for the HVAC apprenticeship programme is a Form V certificate (Eswatini General Certificate of Secondary Education) or equivalent. Remission of up to 2 years is based on qualification and employer’s recommendation or appraisal.
