The Directorate of Industrial and Vocational Training (DIVT) is a department in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, established by The Industrial and Vocational Training Act No 16 of 1982. The Department is responsible for the administration of industrial on-the-job skills training/ development and competence assessment for the skilled labor force.
This Department is composed of the following units:

  • Trade Testing

    The Unit is based at the Directorate of Industrial and Vocational Training (DIVT), tasked with competence skills assessment which measures the vocational ability and skills level of employable persons and entrepreneurs in different sectors of industry.
    There are currently three (3) levels of Trade Tests in respect of each trade or occupation namely:
    1. Grades One - highly skilled
    2. Grades Two - skilled
    3. Grades Three - semi-skilled workers respectively
  • Apprenticeship

    This Unit is responsible for the administration of Work-Based Learning. It is designed to promote Industrial Training in the country by ensuring that all apprentices/trainees in the designated trades covered by the scheme receive adequate training.
